Metro Community Housing has partnerships with over 20 community-based agencies who nominate and provide a range of support services to help tenants establish and maintain a sustainable tenancy.

The Metro Strategic Plan for the period 2007/2010 set a goal of increasing partnerships by -2% each year until we reached our target that 25% of all tenancies would be offered through support partnerships. As at 30 June 2009, just over 27% of our properties were allocated to support partnership nominations.

These provide either transitional housing - for periods of between 6-24 months, or permanent housing for:

  • Women and their children leaving refuges
  • Young people (18-25) leaving refuges (generalist and gay/lesbian)
  • Young people exiting residential drug and alcohol programs
  • People who were formerly homeless or insecurely housed
  • Frail aged persons who require assistance to remain in their homes
  • Recently arrived refugees – primarily from the African sub-continent
  • People with a psychiatric disability
  • People with an intellectual disability
