Together Home

The NSW Government has committed $36.1m to establish the Together Home Program, which will provide housing and support packages to rapidly rehouse people who were sleeping rough before being given access to DCJ funded Temporary Accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together Home is premised on a housing first approach to working with homeless people and involves providing clients with housing upfront and then putting in place wrap-around flexible support services that assist them to sustain a tenancy and meet their personal goals. A number of the housing and support packages will be specifically targeted to people with mental health conditions.

The program will operate for two years in a partnership between the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and Community Housing Providers (CHPs). Funding will allow Community Housing providers to head-lease properties from the private rental market and contract specialist services to:

• Provide culturally appropriate health, mental health and wellbeing services.

• Assist people to rebuild family, community and cultural connections

• Help tenants to develop daily living and self-management skills.

 

Tranche 1:  Metro Housing has committed to housing 20 clients into long term housing within its portfolio after the two-year funding period.  We have engaged The Salvation Army and Newtown Neighbourhood Centre to provide the wrap around supports for these clients.

 

Tranche 2:  This commenced on 1st July 2021.  Metro and other providers will be housing people who had to be moved out of large residential centres due to de-congregation.  There are 18 packages in the 2nd Tranche.
